404 Error Opening Shared OneDrive File

Summary

If you receive a 404 error when opening a shared OneDrive or SharePoint file, the link may be out of date following the school domain change.

Who is this for?

All staff.

Cause

Some shared links were created before the school moved from:

  • @taw.org.uk
    to
  • @telfordlangleyschool.co.uk

These older links may no longer work and can return a 404 error.

How to Check the Link

  • Look at the shared link URL
  • If it contains taw_org_uk, it is an old link and will not work

Fix the Issue

  1. Contact the person who shared the file
  2. Ask them to:
    • Open the file in OneDrive or SharePoint
    • Click Share
    • Create a new link
  3. The new link should:
    • Use the current domain
    • Work without errors

Notes

  • Old sharing links do not update automatically
  • A new link must always be created after a domain change
