Summary

This guide explains how staff and students should connect school‑managed devices to WiFi, and how guests or personal devices access the guest network.

Who is this for?

All staff, students, and authorised visitors using school WiFi.

1. Edu.Net – School Managed Devices

Edu.Net is the primary WiFi network for all school‑managed devices.

Key points:

  • All ICT‑built laptops automatically connect to Edu.Net.
  • No password is required — authentication is done using your school Microsoft 365 account.
  • This network provides full access to school services such as:
    • Printing
    • OneDrive
    • Teams
    • Outlook
    • MIS and teaching tools
  • This network is not available for personal devices.

If your managed laptop is not connecting:

  1. Restart the device.
  2. Sign out and sign in again with your current password.
  3. Ensure the WiFi is turned on.
  4. Select Edu.Net manually if needed.
  5. If you recently changed your password, ensure you have logged in with the new password (see troubleshooting at bottom).

If Edu.Net still does not connect, contact ICT Services.

2. Telford Langley School – Guest Network

The Guest SSID is named:

Telford Langley School

This network is intended for:

  • Visitors
  • External staff
  • Temporary access

It is not intended for students or personal devices without permission.

How the guest network works:

  • The network is open (no WiFi password).
  • When you connect, you must register using:
    • A username
    • A password
  • ICT Services must manually whitelist the account in the Meraki console before internet access is allowed.
  • This whitelisting step prevents students from accessing the guest network on personal devices.

To request guest WiFi access:

  1. Provide ICT Services with the guest’s name and purpose of visit.
  2. ICT will supply login details.
  3. ICT will whitelist the device once registration is complete.

Guests will not have access to internal resources.

3. Important Notes for Staff and Students

  • Do not use the Guest network on a school‑issued laptop — services such as printing and OneDrive may not work.
  • Do not share guest WiFi details with students.
  • Students must not use personal devices on the school network unless authorised.
  • Personal devices are not supported on Edu.Net.

4. Common WiFi Issues and How to Fix Them

Issue: “Edu.Net won’t connect after I changed my password.”

This happens if you didn’t restart and sign in again with your new password.

Fix:

  1. Restart your device.
  2. Sign in using your new password.
  3. Wait 1–2 minutes before logging in to allow password syncing.
  4. Try Edu.Net again.

Issue: Device logs in but printing/OneDrive/Internet doesn’t work

Your device may still be using your old cached password.

Fix:

  1. Restart the device.
  2. Log in using your new password only.
  3. Allow a short time for network authentication to update.

Issue: Guest user cannot browse even after logging in

The guest account may not be whitelisted yet.

5. When to Contact ICT Services

Contact ICT if:

  • Edu.Net does not appear
  • Your device refuses to authenticate
  • Your password change hasn’t synced
  • Guests cannot get online
  • You suspect a WiFi security issue
