This guide shows you how to install the Microsoft Authenticator app and set up MFA (Multi‑Factor Authentication) for your school Microsoft 365 account.

Who is this for?

All staff and students who are required to use MFA.

? Step 1 — Install Microsoft Authenticator App

You can install the app from your device’s app store:

For iPhone / iPad (iOS)

Open the App Store
Search for:
Microsoft Authenticator
Tap Get to install

For Android (Google Play Store)

Open the Google Play Store
Search for:
Microsoft Authenticator
Tap Install

Once installed, open the app and keep it ready for the next steps.

? Step 2 — Begin the MFA Setup Process

Go to any Microsoft 365 service such as:
- https://www.office.com
- https://outlook.office.com
Sign in with your school email address
After entering your password, you will be prompted to set up MFA
Click Next when you see “More information required”

? Step 3 — Pair Microsoft Authenticator With Your Account

When prompted, click Set up your account
A QR code will appear on your screen
On your phone, open Microsoft Authenticator
Tap + (Add account)
Choose Work or school account
Tap Scan a QR code
Point your phone’s camera at the QR code on your computer screen
Your account will automatically be added to the app

You should now see your school account listed in the Authenticator app.

? Step 4 — Complete MFA Verification

After scanning the QR code, click Next on your computer
A notification will be sent to your phone
Approve the sign‑in request in the Authenticator app
Click Done to finish the setup

MFA is now fully configured on your account.

? Troubleshooting

Not receiving notifications?

Open the Microsoft Authenticator app manually
Ensure mobile data or WiFi is enabled
Restart your phone
